CEREC
“CEREC” is a CAD/CAM system that was developed in 1985 at the University of Zurich and is optimized continuously. The aim of this technique is to produce (indirectly) high-quality, precisely fitting fillings/crowns outside the mouth.
When is a CEREC restoration indicated?
- large, extensive defects (e.g. lack of entire dental cusps)
- bite pain due to hairline cracks in the tooth
- when replacing amalgam fillings
- after a successful root canal treatment
- replacement / new production of crowns
Durability:
Studies have shown that the durability of CEREC restorations is at least comparable to that of gold restorations (the most durable to date).
Treatment process
- After the caries or old filling/crown has been removed, a three-dimensional image of the tooth is taken using the CEREC camera.
- Your filling/crown is constructed directly on the screen before your eyes.
- Then you can watch your new tooth being milled from a single block of ceramic by the CEREC milling machine.
- The finished, milled restoration is inserted directly into/onto your tooth in the same session using the adhesive technique (bonding).
Advantages of the CEREC system:
- no uncomfortable indentation
- no temporary solution
- only one treatment session
- metal-free, biocompatible, neutral-tasting fillings/crowns
- durable filling / crown
- good aesthetics
- no costs for dental technology / laboratory
Costs for CEREC filling or crown
The cost of a CEREC filling or CEREC crown depends primarily on the size of the defect. Before the restoration, the tooth must be thoroughly examined and, if necessary, pre-treated. We would be happy to advise you personally on a tailor-made cost estimate!
