Invisible braces for adults and teenagers

Braces move teeth step by step into the desired position using gentle, even pressure. With invisible braces, this is done by clear plastic aligners that are made to fit your teeth exactly and are replaced at set intervals.

Many people think of braces as something for teenagers, with brackets and wires. But braces for adults are common today, and adults in particular appreciate the invisible option: at work, in meetings or in photos, they are barely noticeable.

Whether invisible braces are suitable for your tooth alignment is something we clarify in a thorough examination, and we discuss the result openly with you.

When are braces a good idea?

Treatment with invisible braces can be a good idea for:

  • Crowded or overlapping teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Overbite, deep bite or crossbite
  • Open bite, where the front teeth do not meet
  • Teeth that have shifted again after earlier treatment
  • Bite misalignments that can, for example, encourage teeth grinding
  • Preparation for dental prosthetics, when teeth first need to be moved into the right position

Straight teeth are not just a question of appearance. They are easier to clean, and the load on your bite is spread more evenly.

Invisible braces

The clear aligners are custom-made for you. They fit closely against your teeth, are barely visible and can be removed for eating and brushing.

How treatment with invisible braces works

It all starts with a personal consultation. We listen to your wishes, examine your teeth and bite, and check whether invisible braces are suitable for you.

During treatment, you change the aligners yourself at home. At regular check-ups in our practice, we make sure your teeth are moving as planned.

  1. Consultation and examination

We examine your teeth, gums and bite and discuss your goals. Your teeth and gums need to be healthy before treatment begins.

  2. Digital scan and planning

Your teeth are captured with a digital scan, with no impression material. A 3D simulation shows how the teeth are planned to move and what the result could look like.

  3. Wearing and changing the aligners

You wear the aligners for most of the day and replace them with the next set at fixed intervals. We check your progress at each check-up.

  4. Keeping the result

After treatment, a retainer holds your teeth in their new position. We explain how long and how to wear it.

How much do braces cost in Switzerland?

The cost of invisible braces depends on your starting point. Key factors include:

  • The type and extent of the misalignment
  • The number of aligners needed
  • The length of treatment and the number of check-ups at the practice
  • The retainer that keeps the result in place

Basic health insurance does not usually cover the cost of braces. Whether supplementary insurance covers part of it depends on your policy. After the examination, we give you a transparent cost estimate.

Invisalign or braces with brackets?

Both methods can correct misaligned teeth. Many adults now choose invisible braces because they fit better into everyday life:

  • Barely visible: the clear aligners are hardly noticeable in conversation or in photos
  • Removable: eat and drink as usual, brush and floss without restrictions
  • Comfortable: no brackets or wires rubbing against your lips and cheeks
  • Predictable: a 3D simulation shows the course of treatment before you start

It is important to wear the aligners consistently. For very pronounced misalignments, fixed braces may be the better choice. We assess this individually and discuss it openly with you.

Useful Information for You

Frequently asked questions about braces

Is there an age limit for braces?

No. Teeth can be moved at any age, as long as your teeth and gums are healthy. Braces are now just as common for adults as for teenagers.

How invisible are invisible braces?

The clear aligners fit closely against your teeth and are barely noticeable in conversation. Depending on the treatment, small tooth-coloured attachments are placed on some teeth; these are also inconspicuous.

Invisalign or braces: which is better?

That depends on your tooth alignment and your daily routine. Invisible braces with Invisalign are discreet, removable and comfortable to wear, but they require consistent wearing time. Fixed braces with brackets can be a good choice for very complex misalignments. We advise you on which method suits your case.

How many hours a day do I need to wear the aligners?

For the treatment to work, the aligners are usually worn about 22 hours a day. They are only taken out for eating, for drinking anything other than water, and for brushing your teeth.

How long does treatment with braces take?

That depends on your starting point. Minor corrections often take a few months; more extensive treatments can take one to two years or longer. After the examination, we can give you an estimate.

Do braces hurt?

At the start and after each aligner change, you may feel slight pressure. This shows that your teeth are moving, and it usually eases after a few days.

How much do braces cost in Switzerland, and does health insurance pay?

The cost depends on the scope and length of treatment. Basic insurance does not usually cover it. Depending on your supplementary insurance, partial coverage may be possible. At the consultation, you receive a cost estimate that you can submit to your insurer.

Is there an alternative to braces with brackets?

Yes. For many misalignments, invisible braces with clear aligners are a good alternative to fixed braces. In some cases, purely cosmetic corrections are also possible with fillings or veneers, but the position of the teeth stays the same. We clarify which option suits you at the examination.

What happens after treatment?

Teeth tend to move back to their old position. That is why a retainer keeps the result in place, for example as a clear aligner worn at night or as a thin wire on the inside of the teeth.

Can braces help with teeth grinding?

If a misalignment or an uneven bite contributes to grinding, correcting the position of the teeth can make sense. A night guard is often used as well to protect the teeth.
